What is therapy/counseling?

Psychotherapy and counseling are both treatments for mental health problems that involve talking with a trained mental health professional. You and your therapist talk about your experiences, thoughts, feelings and emotions to understand them better and work in a collaborative way to work towards your growth and healing.

What does a therapist do?

Every therapist has a different way of approaching therapy depending on the therapeutic approach they follow and the needs of their client.

The therapeutic process largely focuses on mapping goals and working on those goals wherein a therapist is a facilitator, aiding the client in exploring their emotions, thoughts and gaining important insights.

How long does each therapy session take?

Typically, therapy sessions last anywhere between 50- 60 minutes . However, there may be a need for the session to be extended sometimes, to ensure that the client does not carry back unresolved matters with them post session, as this may (at a conscious or unconscious level) hinder their interactions with others or themself until the next session. In such a case, the therapist will notify the client, and take their consent to extend the session.

What services does Samvaad provide ?

Who can come for therapy?

Anyone!

Therapy is a safe space for everyone. While some people come in to therapy for working on their personal growth or development, others may come in with the aim of working on their own healing. Sometimes, people come to therapy also because they simply want a space where they will be seen and heard, and where they can share their thoughts and emotions freely without being judged.

It depends on what your personal goal is!

What is Samvaad's privacy policy?

At Samvaad, the counselling process involves private and confidential interactions across all sessions between the therapist and client, including but not limited to: identifying, processing, and solving issues or concerns.

The only exceptions to confidentiality and privacy are situations wherein the client may pose a risk to either their own life (suicide/self-harm) or to the lives of others around them (elder/child abuse, or domestic violence). In such cases, the therapist is ethically bound to inform the client's emergency contact and equip them with a plan to ensure the safety of the client and all other parties involved.

Additionally, in such cases, the therapist is also ethically and legally bound to inform the intended victim(s) and the respective local authorities to ensure the safety of all parties involved.

Further, Samvaad follows guidelines given by the APA while maintaining client records. We maintain our client records for a period of 7 years, in a secure online space that is password protected.

No third parties have access to the said records.
